Algonquin man accused of trying to arrange illicit meeting with teen in Warren Twp.

An Algonquin man is charged with trying to meet someone he thought was a 14-year-old boy on social media to engage in a sex act and smoke marijuana, authorities said.

Thomas C. Casey, 23, of the 1900 block of Cloverdale Lane, believed he was communicating with a 14-year-old boy on an electronic social networking application when he arranged a meeting on Oct. 4, authorities said. That boy was actually a detective with the Lake County Sheriff's Office Cybercrimes Unit.

Casey asked the detective to meet at a Warren Township location around 1:30 p.m., authorities said. He was taken into custody and charged with felony counts of indecent solicitation of a child and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

He remains in Lake County jail pending a bond hearing.

"Our cybercrime unit works to protect society's most vulnerable, our children," Sheriff Mark Curran said in the news release. "Cases like this serve as an important reminder to parents of the need to always monitor what your children are doing online and who they are speaking with."
