Dist. 131 teachers union, board reach tentative contract deal

East Aurora District 131 teachers union and school board have reached a tentative agreement on a new contract, according to a news release Thursday evening from the Illinois Federation of Teachers.

Details of the agreement won't be released until it is reviewed and voted on by the union's 1,400 members, which the union hopes to do soon, the release said.

According to the union, the agreement secured class size limits, equal teacher representation on joint committees and pay increases for teachers and office and support staff.

The two sides spent nearly eight months negotiating after talks began in February, the release said.

In August, the board walked away from the bargaining table, according to the release. In late September, the union filed a 10-day intent-to-strike notice which resumed negotiations with a federal mediator, the release said.
