Woman dies after fall from fourth floor of Arlington Heights building

Arlington Heights police are investigating the death of a 78-year-old woman who fell from the fourth floor of a downtown apartment building.

Sgt. Alan Baumgartner said Mary Lawlor, a resident of the 200 block of North Arlington Heights Road, was discovered Saturday morning outside the building where she lived. She was pronounced dead at 11:36 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

There were no signs of foul play, Baumgartner said.

Officers responded to the scene Saturday after the department received reports from passers-by that a person was lying on the driveway leading to the Hancock Square apartments parking garage along the Miner Street side of the building.

"We believe that she fell out of a window in her apartment," Baumgartner said.

Lawlor was in the apartment alone when the fall occurred, he added.

"The window screen in her apartment had been damaged," Baumgartner said.

The medical examiner's office reported Sunday that Lawlor died as a result of multiple injuries from the fall and ruled the death was an accident.
