Chimney fire displaces Naperville family

A Naperville family was displaced after fire broke out Saturday night in their home's chimney.

Authorities said no one was injured in the fire, reported at 9:56 p.m. in the 400 block of Massachusetts Avenue.

Firefighters arriving at the scene found smoke flowing from a chimney attached to the exterior of the residence, a two-story single-family structure, according to the Naperville Fire Department. Residents had escaped the home before firefighters arrived.

The fire was extinguished within minutes, officials said. The cause of the fire was accidental, originating in the upper part of the wood-frame chimney, according to the fire department.

Naperville police, the Naperville Transportation, Engineering, & Development Department and NICOR assisted at the scene. The Plainfield and Bolingbrook fire protection districts provided station coverage during the fire.
