Two charged in Aurora home invasion where shots were fired

Two people have been charged in an Aug. 5 home invasion and burglary attempt in Aurora where two shots were fired.

No one was hit by either bullet and authorities arrested two Aurora residents on warrant late last week, according to police and Kane County court records.

Savaughn A. Strickland, 33, of the 0-99 block of North Loucks Street, Aurora, is charged with firing the shots and faces felonies of home invasion where a firearm was discharged and criminal damage to property, according to court records. He also is charged with injuring seven people in a DUI crash in Kendall County in December 2017.

Elishea J. Langston. 29, of the 100 block of Gregory Street, Aurora, is charged with home invasion and criminal damage to property, records show.

If convicted of the most severe charge of home invasion, both Strickland and Langston face six to 30 years in prison with no chance of probation.

According to police, the charges stem from a case around 1 a.m. on Aug. 5. The two are accused of entering a home on the 1300 block of East Galena Boulevard that was occupied by a 27-year-old man, who Strickland knew, and a 30-year-old woman.

Both Strickland and Langston were armed and "continually demanded valuables" from the man, police said.

When the man said he didn't know what Strickland was talking about, Strickland fired two shots into the floor, police said. The 27-year-old woman had been in another part of the house, but heard the commotion and went into the kitchen where Strickland, Langston and the man were, police said. This prompted Strickland and Langston to run and drive off in a car.

Police said the two were identified as suspects early on and the Kane County state's attorney's office approved charges and issued arrest warrants last week.

Both were arrested by U.S. Marshals on Sept. 12 on the 700 block of Enterprise Court in Aurora where they both were employed, police said.

Langston is being held at the Kane County jail on $250,000 bail, meaning she must post $25,000 to be released while the case is pending. Strickland is being held on $521,000 bail, meaning he must post $52,100 to be released. Both are due in court Thursday.

In late August, a warrant was issued for Strickland on charges of seven counts of felony aggravated DUI and driving with a revoked license from a Dec. 25, 2017, crash in Little Rock Township in Kendall County, records show.

He is accused of injuring an 80-year-old woman and six others in a head-on crash; bail was set at $1 million and his next court date was not available.

Elishea J. Langston is being held on $250,000 bail.
