Naperville police seeking grocery store wallet thief

Naperville police are on the hunt for a wallet thief who struck at the Mariano's grocery store.

Police said surveillance video captured a white man entering the Mariano's at 1300 S. Naper Blvd. around 6:55 p.m. Aug. 25, reaching into an unattended shopping cart and taking a wallet.

The man appears to be wearing a blue short-sleeved, Under Armour T-shirt. He also had a watch on his left wrist. Tattoos are visible in the surveillance image on his left and right forearms, and he has close-cropped, light-colored hair.

Police said the man remained in the store and looked into another shopper's purse after he took the wallet. Then he left the store without buying anything and last was seen exiting the Fox Run Square shopping center in a dark SUV that had been parked in the Mariano's lot.

Naperville Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to the identification of the person responsible for the wallet theft.

Police ask anyone who saw what happened or has information about the suspect to contact Crime Stoppers at (630) 420-6006 or through napervillecrimestoppers.com. Tips to Crime Stoppers may be made anonymously.
