Buffalo Grove saving millions on Weiland Road project

Buffalo Grove has inked an intergovernmental agreement with Lake County laying out each government's responsibilities - and expenses - for an upcoming project to widen Weiland Road between Lake-Cook Road and Deerfield Parkway and between Deerfield and Aptakisic Road.

Village Engineer Darren Monico said the agreement covers items such as sidewalks, streetlights and traffic signals. The village share of the work, scheduled to begin next year, is just shy of $800,000, he added.

Monico pointed out that the agreement supersedes a previous deal in which the village's share was approximately $6 million for the first two sections. However, negotiations with Lake County resulted lowering that figure.

"(We) went from $6 million down to less than $800,000," Trustee Joanne Johnson said. "That's something our residents really need to know. That's a lot of money."
