2 men in Aurora KFC robbery in which 3 workers were shot get 24 years each

Two Aurora men were each sentenced to 24 years in prison Thursday for their roles in a September 2014 armed robbery at an Aurora KFC in which three employees were shot.

Chase N. West, 23, of the 700 block of Columbia Street, and Joshua O. Scott, 30, of the 1800 block of Thornapple Way, in July pleaded guilty to three felony counts of attempted armed robbery.

Kane County Judge D.J. Tegeler accepted the guilty pleas in which each defendant must serve 85 percent of the prison term, or a little more than 20 years.

Each gets credit for the nearly four years he was held at the county jail while the case was pending.

West and Scott were set to testify in the jury trial of a third person in the shooting, Claude M. Jackson, 49, of the 1100 blocks of Liberty Street, Aurora.

Jackson was set for a jury trial Monday, but he pleaded guilty earlier this month and was sentenced to 29½ years in prison.

According to prosecutors, the night of Sept. 24, 2014, West and Jackson, who was armed with a Kel-tec 2000 rifle, entered a KFC in the 1300 block of East New York Street while Scott remained in the car.

Jackson pointed the rifle at three employees - the only other people inside - and demanded they open the cash register. The three were unable to open the cash register, prompting Jackson to shoot each of the three victims.

The two men ran outside to vehicle in which Scott was waiting and drove off, but Aurora police arrested the men later that night.
