Friday picnic will celebrate Sanborn Elemetary's 70th anniversary
Gray M. Sanborn Elementary School in Palatine will host a picnic Friday for all current and former students to kick off a 70th anniversary celebration.
Sanborn is the oldest building in the Palatine Elementary District 15 system. Sanborn, which serves children in kindergarten through sixth grade, is at 101 N. Oak St. near Community Park.
District 15 officials said they want as many current and previous students as possible to participate in the picnic from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday to launch Sanborn's 70th anniversary celebration. The festivities are scheduled behind Sanborn's cafeteria, but will move inside if the weather is poor.
Participants are asked to bring blankets, chairs, dinner and nonalcoholic beverages. The Sanborn PTA announced it will provide music, face painting and ice cream treats.
Sanborn sixth-graders will lead school tours geared for graduates who can see how the building has changed over the years. The school has an enrollment of roughly 600 students, according to the most recent Illinois State Board of Education report card.
