Elgin teachers to work under expired contract until new deal is signed
Elgin-area school officials Monday released a joint statement with the teachers union about ongoing contract negotiations.
Officials said the terms of the previous contract, which expired Friday, remain in effect until a successor agreement is signed by both parties.
The Elgin Teachers Association and Elgin Area School District U-46 administration have met several times over the summer and additional meetings are scheduled for next week.
"This means elements such as the Teacher Appraisal Plan, accrued sick time, additional academic credits for salary adjustments, and so forth, remain intact," the statement read.
Conversations about salary adjustments, including step increases, continue and more information will be provided to teachers before the first adjusted paychecks for the 2018-19 school year Sept. 7, officials said.
