District 301 seeks candidates to fill school board vacancy

Burlington Central Unit District 301 is seeking applicants to fill a school board vacancy after the resignation last week of board member Tina Johnson.

Johnson, of Elgin, a senior director of regional marketing for Scholastic Education, was elected in April 2017. She resigned for personal reasons, Superintendent Todd Stirn said.

The replacement will serve until the next school board election in April.

Interested candidates must submit a letter of interest/application and resume to Jeff Kellenberger, board president, 275 South St., P.O. Box 396, Burlington, Illinois 60109 by Aug. 24.

To be eligible, an applicant must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18, a resident of Illinois and District 301 for at least one year preceding the appointment, be a registered voter, not be a child sex offender, not hold another incompatible public office, not have a prohibited interest in any contract with the district, not be a school trustee, and not hold certain types of prohibited state or federal employment.

Applicants must be familiar with the board's policies regarding general duties and responsibilities of the board and a board member, including fiduciary responsibilities, conflict of interest, ethics and gift ban. The board's policies are available at Central301.net.

The school board will review all applications, select candidates for interviews and make a selection by Sept. 14.
