Police: Des Plaines woman shot ex-boyfriend breaking into her apartment

A 22-year-old man accused of breaking into his ex-girlfriend's Des Plaines apartment while armed with a gun has been charged with home invasion. Jonathan Warner, of the 5300 block of West Hirsch Street in Chicago, forced his way into the woman's apartment in the 1200 East Washington Street on the morning of July 4, police said.

After a fight, the woman shot Warner several times "in self-defense as she feared for her life," police said. The woman is a legally registered gun owner and possesses a concealed carry license, police said.

Warner was treated for the gunshot wounds at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. He was charged Thursday and is awaiting a bond hearing, which has not yet been scheduled.
