Aldi will hold a grand reopening Thursday of its remodeled store on the south side of Arlington Heights.

The renovations at 550 E. Golf Road are among $180 million the Batavia-based grocery chain is spending to update more than 130 stores in Chicago and the suburbs by the end of 2020. Nationwide, the grocer is spending $1.9 billion to remodel and expand more than 1,300 stores.

A ribbon-cutting is scheduled for 8:25 a.m., followed by a Golden Ticket giveaway offering gift cards to the first 100 customers. Food samples will also be available.

The expanded store has open ceilings, natural lighting and environmentally-friendly building materials, officials say. Arlington Heights trustees approved new building signage last fall.
