House candidate withdraws, is moving out of state
Mary Battinus, the Republican nominee in the 57th state House District race, announced Tuesday that she will suspend her campaign because she soon will be moving out of the state.
The Republican Party's township leaders in the district will determine who will replace Battinus, who is from Buffalo Grove, in the race against Democratic state Rep. Jonathan Carroll. The 57th House District includes parts of Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Des Plaines, Mount Prospect, Northbrook, Prospect Heights and Wheeling.
Mary Battinus and her husband, Jeff Battinus, said in a statement that the decision to leave Illinois was difficult.
"Like many of our friends with young families, the opportunities outside of Illinois have been incredibly attractive for highly educated and experienced professionals such as ourselves," the couple's statement read. "The advantageous tax policies of other states have provided a business and social infrastructure that is ideal for young families."
Mary Battinus also will resign her post as the vice president of the Indian Trails Library Board. Jeff Battinus will resign as a Wheeling Township trustee.
