Wheeling man pleads not guilty to charges of drug induced homicide of Mundelein man
A Wheeling man pleaded not guilty in Lake County court Thursday to supplying a lethal dose of fentanyl to a Mundelein man who later died.
James J. Murray, 21, is facing up to 30 years in prison if found guilty on the charge of drug-induced homicide, defense attorney Greg Nikitas said.
Murray also faces up to seven years behind bars if found guilty at trial on a charged of delivery of a controlled substance, Nikitas said.
Murray was given a Sept. 24 trial date by Judge Daniel Shanes.
Nikitas said he was unable to comment on specifics surrounding the case.
Nathan Clyde, 19, died Aug. 17, and police found a small bag with white powder in his wallet that tested positive for fentanyl.
Mundelein police said social media evidence and text messages between the victim and Murray were used to show Murray sold Clyde one or two bags before Clyde died, authorities said.
Murray was taken into custody on April 12. His bail remains $750,000.
Murray is due back in court June 25.
