Geneva man accused of prescription pill possession

An 18-year-old Geneva man was charged with felony prescription pill possession Tuesday after police searching his home found 36 Xanax pills, authorities said.

Police said they believe Jacob K. Keen threw more pills into a basement sump pump pit to destroy them.

Keen faces charges of felony manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, obstruction of justice/destroying evidence and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to Kane County court records and authorities.

Lt. Pat Gengler, spokesman for the Kane County sheriff's office, said deputies and officers from Geneva and Batavia executed a search warrant at 8 a.m. Tuesday at Keen's residence on the 700 block of Anderson Boulevard.

Officers found Keen in the basement near a sump pump pit, and authorities said he appeared to have thrown pills into the pit in an effort to destroy them.

Gengler said the street value of the drugs is $720. Authorities are not seeking any other suspects.

Keen was released on his own recognizance and is due in court on May 9.

If convicted, the most severe charge carries a punishment ranging from probation to up to five years in prison.

Keen doesn't have any previous felony arrests in Kane County but was ticketed for possessing less than a gram of marijuana in March 2017 in Geneva and has failed to pay the $120 fine, court records show.

He also pleaded guilty to misdemeanor disorderly conduct for spitting on the counter and floor of a Geneva 7-Eleven store in September 2017. He was sentenced to 50 hours of community service.
