Fire leaves Bartlett home uninhabitable, causes $170,000 in damage

No injuries were reported Monday after fire swept through a Bartlett home, causing an estimated $170,000 in damages and leaving the structure uninhabitable, officials said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Bartlett Fire District.

Firefighters called to the home on the 200 block of Jackson Street at 8:27 a.m. arrived about five minutes later to find flames and smoke visible from the first floor of the residence, according to the fire district.

The first crews pulled a hose line to the front and began an exterior attack on the fire, while other firefighters pulled a hose line through the main entrance and attacked the fire from the inside. Firefighters also searched for trapped occupants.

The fire was declared under control at 08:50 a.m., though crews remained on the scene to ventilate smoke and gases and perform salvage and overhaul operations.

The fire was fought by 20 firefighters, staffing three engines and two ladder trucks. Two ambulances responded and firefighters from Hanover Park and Carol Stream were among the first responders. Bartlett police officers assisted with traffic and crowd control.
