Aurora police investigating string of vehicle burglaries since January

Police are investigating a series of vehicle burglaries that occurred on the west side of Aurora between January and March.

The 15 incidents, which police believe might be related, occurred between Jan. 21 and March 5, and almost all involved cars that were left unlocked, police said. Burglars took items ranging in value from around $20 to as much as $1,000, and there are no descriptions of any suspects, according to police.

The incidents are as follows:

• Between March 4 and 5, someone entered a vehicle in the 700 block of Old Indian Trail, but didn't take anything. #x2022; Between 9:30 and 10:15 p.m. March 3, a wallet was taken from a purse in a vehicle parked in the 300 block of Westpark Ave. The total value of the items was about $100. #x2022; Between Feb. 25 and 26, a wallet containing credit cards was stolen from a vehicle parked in the 600 block of View Street. Police said the total value of the items was about $20. #x2022; Between 8:45 p.m. on Feb. 21 and 7:30 a.m. on Feb. 22, items valued at about $290 were taken from a vehicle parked in the 1200 block of Foran lane. #x2022; In the morning of Feb. 22, a wallet and other items worth $120 were stolen from a vehicle parked in the 800 block of Foran Lane. #x2022; Between the night of Feb. 19 and the morning of Feb. 20, a purse and other items were taken from a vehicle parked in the 700 block of Charles street. #x2022; On the morning of Feb. 16, items were taken from a vehicle parked in the 700 block of North May Street. Police said the incident was caught on camera, but the suspect wasn't clear enough to be identified in the footage. #x2022; Between Feb. 6 and 9, a credit card was taken from a vehicle parked in the 500 block of Northpark Avenue. #x2022; Between Feb. 7 and 8, a purse worth $90 was stolen from a vehicle parked in the 1000 block of Pennsylvania Avenue. #x2022; On the morning of Feb. 7, a cellphone worth about $700 was stolen from a vehicle parked in the 800 block of North Randall Road. #x2022; Between Feb. 4 and Feb. 5, a purse was stolen from a vehicle parked in a driveway in the 800 block of Taylor Avenue. #x2022; At around 4:50 a.m. on Jan. 31, a man caught on a security camera stole money from a car parked in a driveway in the 400 block of Spruce Street. Police described the man as being about 5'5", 140 pounds, wearing dark clothing and light pants, and carrying a backpack. #x2022; On the afternoon of Jan. 25, $1,000 worth of tools was stolen from a locked van parked in the 1200 block of North Orchard Road. #x2022; Between Jan. 21 and Jan. 24, $1,000 worth of electronics were taken from a parked vehicle in the 600 block of Garfield Avenue.

Police reminded residents to lock their cars and remove any valuables, and are asking anyone with information about the incidents to call investigations at (630) 256-5500 or Crime Stoppers at (630) 892-1000.
