'good neighbors' get together

  • Karen Leavitt Stallman, left, community relations director for Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, was the guest speaker at the Feb. 21 meeting of the Chester Rotary Club. Stallman said her role with the university is "to make SIU a good neighbor and to increase and enhance the partnership between SIU-C and the region.'  She reported SIU-C is among the top five percent of all U.S. higher education institutions for research, and is a doctoral research university, enrolling students from all 50 states and more than 100 countries. With Stallman is Mary Sulser, Rotary vice president.
