Citizens for Conservation buys four acres in Lake Barrington

Lake Barrington-based Citizens for Conservation has exercised its option under a 2010 agreement with the village to purchase additional land at what's known as the Gibbs property, at the northwest corner of Northwest Highway and Cuba Road.

The new parcel of just over four acres will expand the organization's existing Flint Creek Savanna property and bring the total area acquired from the village since 2010 to roughly 12 acres.

Flint Creek Savanna, between Route 22 and Northwest Highway, is the nonprofit Citizens for Conservation's largest preserve with almost 160 acres. Volunteers are restoring and preserving the land.

"We value our collaboration with CFC and are very fortunate to have such a dedicated partner in our community, as they not only acquire and preserve open space, they engage volunteers to restore it to its natural condition," Lake Barrington Village President Kevin Richardson said.
