Rosemont has canceled plans for a $1.5 million, 80-space underground parking garage beneath a planned Harley-Davidson motorcycle dealership and retail store in the village's entertainment district.

Original plans called for the village to construct the garage, but Mayor Brad Stephens said this week the project has become cost prohibitive. Instead, he believes there will be enough surface parking to accommodate visitors, while motorcycles available for rent will be stored in the existing Williams Street garage.

Harley dealer Windy City Motorcycle Company is leasing village-owned space in between Hofbrauhaus Chicago and the Big Ten Conference headquarters for its new two-story, 20,000-square-foot store, expected to open by the end of the year. A temporary bike rental facility is expected to open in April.
