Man accused of making bogus 911 call in Palatine

Authorities announced Friday that a Chicago man was charged with felony disorderly conduct after making a bogus 911 call seeking help from Palatine police. Bail was set at $40,000 at a hearing in the Rolling Meadows courthouse for Leonard Perry, 29, of the 1600 block of South Millard Avenue. Palatine police said Perry and another man were seen by store loss-prevention workers at a Walmart on Rand Road loading electronics into a cart and loitering near a fire door. Officers called to the store asked the men to leave. A short time later, police said, a man later found to be Perry called 911 to report his car had been stolen at gunpoint near the Walmart. Authorities said Perry was found in the vicinity and his mobile telephone indicated he made the 911 call. Perry did not have a valid driver's license and made the call to divert officers from where his vehicle was parked so he could drive away without officers noticing, police said.
