Round Lake Beach house damaged by fire

A fire badly damaged a house under renovation in Round Lake Beach on Thursday.

The blaze on the 200 block of West North Channel Drive appeared to be accidental, said Fire Marshal Tony Breuscher of the Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District. No one was hurt.

The fire was reported by a neighbor about 11:20 a.m. The son of the homeowner had been renovating the house and left to get supplies, Breuscher said.

Firefighters arrived and saw smoke and flames near a bedroom. Crews from the Grayslake, Lake Villa, Fox Lake and Wauconda fire departments were called to assist.

Firefighters had the blaze under control about 11:40 a.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
