Police warn South Elgin after burglars get easy access to loot

South Elgin police are warning residents to lock up after enterprising burglars took advantage of residents' absences on Black Friday to sneak into their homes.

Possessions ranging from cash to electronics were swiped from four homes on the east side of the village where doors and windows were left unlocked, authorities said.

The burglaries occurred between 4:30 and 9:30 p.m. in the 0-100 block of Pine Court, the 100 block of East Plum Street, the 600 block of East State Street, and the 700 block of Robertson Road.

Investigators on Saturday asked neighbors who saw any unusual activity on those streets to contact the police department at (847) 741-2151.

Officials also reminded residents "if you like it, lock it up," and requested that homeowners reach out if they see anything suspicious.
