Third GOP candidate running for 17th District Lake County Board seat

A third Republican candidate has entered the race for the Lake County Board's 17th District seat.

North Barrington resident Eleanor Sweet McDonnell has announced she wants the job.

McDonnell joins incumbent Michael Danforth of Fox River Grove and challenger Linda Starkey of Wauconda in pursuit of the Republican nomination for the post.

"This is the time where Lake County needs my energy and passion to help our residents have better quality lives," McDonnell said in a news release. "I know in my heart that I am the person to make that happen for them."

No Democratic candidates have surfaced yet.

McDonnell, the owner of an executive search firm called the Remington Group, formerly served on North Barrington's plan commission and its fire commission. She also has served as a county-appointed trustee for the Lake Zurich Rural Fire Protection District.

She has been active with community and charitable organizations, too, including as co-chairwoman of the American Cancer Society - Relay For Life of Barrington.

Danforth was appointed to fill a vacancy in February. Starkey is a Wauconda trustee and a former North Barrington mayor.

The primary election is in March. The general election is in November 2018.

The 17th District includes parts or all of Wauconda, Island Lake, Lake Barrington, Port Barrington, North Barrington, Barrington Hills, Tower Lakes, Fox River Grove and Hawthorn Woods.

Lake County Board members also concurrently serve on the Lake County Forest Preserve District board.
