Round Lake Beach honored for volunteer program

Round Lake Beach will be honored Wednesday, at the Old State Capitol in Springfield as a project runner-up in the 2017 Governor's Hometown Awards.

The village was selected for its "Mobile Eye-VIPS" project. It features a local group of trained emergency management volunteers who respond to various situations and provide traffic direction, look for lost children and assist during natural disasters, like the recent flooding in the region.

The Hometown Awards gives formal recognition to community efforts that show strong volunteer support, meet a need and make a definitive impact. Visit www.serve.illinois.gov for more information.
