Learn the story of Lake Zurich icon May Whitney

Nearly everyone in the Lake Zurich area has heard of May Whitney School, but who was the person behind the school's name?

Her granddaughter, Beryl Bills, will tell her story and discuss her influence in the area at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6, at the Ela Area Library, 275 Mohawk Trail, Lake Zurich.

Whitney started teaching in the village in 1888 in an old schoolhouse and later at the building now used by the Ela Historical Society, 95 E. Main St.
