Truck driver killed in Lake County crash

A 65-year-old Wisconsin man died early Thursday morning after his semitrailer truck collided with an SUV driven by a Geneva woman in northern Lake County.

Lake County Sheriff's deputies responded to the crash about 5:10 a.m. in the area of Russell Road and Park Lane in Newport Township, authorities said.

A preliminary investigation shows a Jeep Compass driven by the 38-year-old Genevan woman was eastbound on Russell Road when, for an unknown reason, it crossed the double-yellow center divider and struck a westbound Volvo truck, sheriff's police said.

The collision caused the truck, carrying a 40,000-pound load, to overturn and roll into a ravine on the south side of the road, according to the sheriff's office.

Both drivers were transported to St. Catherine's Medical Center in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The truck driver, a Kenosha resident, was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.

The driver of the Jeep was treated and released. She's cooperating with the investigation by the Lake County Sheriff's Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit, authorities said.
