Firefighters battle Round Lake blaze

Firefighters battled a building fire late Friday afternoon and into the evening in Round Lake.

The three-alarm fire was roaring through Campos Income Tax on the 200 block of North Cedar Lake Road. Firefighters from multiple departments were on the scene starting before 5 p.m. Flames were seen bursting out the top of the building as shocked bystanders watched.

There was no report of injuries.

According to Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District Chief Greg Formica, firefighters found smoke pouring from the building when they responded. He said they initially attacked the fire from the inside.

"We had some collapse of the ceiling," he said. "(We) evacuated and made an attack from the outside."

He said additional help was called and crews tried to get as much water as possible on the fire to quench it.

He said that although there are no serious injuries to report, "we do have one person that we are looking for. We're not sure if they were in the building or not in the building. So we're trying to take care, locating that individual."
