Wolf's Crossing Road in Naperville closing for realignment

A segment of Wolf's Crossing Road in southwest Naperville is expected to close for three days this month while crews realign it as part of a plan for a new subdivision.

The work will make Wolf's Crossing continuous and connected between Normantown Road and 95th Street - instead of separated by an odd geometry of a diagonal road and three intersections that leaves an empty field in between.

Right now, the northern portion of Wolf's Crossing ends at 95th Street, and the southern portion, which runs on a northeast/southwest diagonal, ends at 248th Avenue slightly south of 95th Street. This leaves a 36-acre field in the middle, where Pulte Home Corp. is building a neighborhood of 61 houses and 42 duplexes for people 55 and older.

The road work set to begin Monday will close the diagonal portion of Wolf's Crossing from the Canadian National Railroad tracks near Normantown Road to 248th Avenue. While it's closed for roughly three days, crews will build a new north-south section of Wolf's Crossing Road, extending south from its current end at 95th Street.

Once this section is connected, the city will close the diagonal stretch of Wolf's Crossing that heads further east and connects to 248th. The city's transportation, engineering and development department has said this will simplify traffic patterns in the area.

The city is splitting the project's $1.5 million cost with Pulte. The work also includes adding storm sewers, curbs, gutters and lighting and widening Wolf's Crossing to a two-lane road with a center lane for left turns.

Wolf's Crossing will be completely inaccessible from the Canadian National Railroad to 248th Avenue while this month's work is underway. Detour signs will be posted to direct drivers to use Eola Road, Haffenrichter Road and 91st Street. The city has posted a detour map at naperville.il.us/wolfscrossing.

The project is expected to wrap up late this year or early next year.
