Report: NIU cop chief made threat

Officials at Northern Illinois University are reviewing an independent panel's report on allegations that the NIU police chief once hailed as a hero tried to intimidate the editor of the campus newspaper.

NIU spokesman Joe King says the school received the report Tuesday, but he didn't know when a decision on whether to discipline or even fire Chief Donald Grady would be made.

Grady was widely praised last year when he led his men into a classroom where a gunman opened fire and killed five students before committing suicide.

Recently, Grady was placed on paid leave for 30 days after the editor accused him of threatening and shouting at him during an interview.
