Rolling Meadows book sale:

The Friends of the Rolling Meadows Library will hold its spring book sale today through Sunday, July 26, on the upper level of the library, 3110 Martin Lane, Rolling Meadows. All proceeds benefit the library. More than 10,000 hardcover and paperback books donated from the community and from the library will be sold, along with DVDs, CDs, videos, cassettes and records. The pre-sale, with a $5 entrance fee, is 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today. The sale continues from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, July 24; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 25; and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 26. Excluding some special items individually priced, DVDs will cost $3; hardcover books, VHS tapes and CDs will sell for $1; and paperbacks, cassettes and records will be 50 cents.

Panel to honor employers:

The Arlington Heights Commission for Citizens with Disabilities is asking for nominations of Arlington Heights employers who have hired citizens with disabilities. The award will be presented by Village President Arlene Mulder in October in recognition of Disability Employment Awareness Month. Nominations will be accepted through Aug. 31. Summer Fun Friday is back:

Barrington is closing South Cook Street in front of Egg Harbor Cafe downtown for Summer Fun Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. July 24. Food, beer, wine and a free music are in store for attendees. Roquemore, Barrington's own Rock 'n Roll band, will provide two hours of classic tunes from the steps of Egg Harbor Cafe. Food and drinks will be available for purchase from 111 Grille and Sergio's Pizza. Bean bag games will be out and prizes from local merchants will be awarded. Hanover Park residents can sign up to receive information from the village electronically. Mayor Rod Craig said he hopes people will take advantage of the technological tool to learn about events occurring in the village. To sign up, go to hpil.org/referencedesk/mailinglist.htm.
