Another thrilling Tour of Elk Grove is in the books

Last weekend's Alexian Brothers Tour of Elk Grove brought out plenty of first-time cycling fans, myself included.

Seeing 70 pro cyclists barreling down neighborhood streets with just inches separating you from them was thrilling.

As the crowd cheered, and the cyclists just blazed through at 30 mph - it was easy to get caught up in the event.

People seemed so engaged, even hosting barbecue parties to enjoy the race. And to see a cyclist who had just broken his collar bone in a crash moments earlier still roll across the finish line, well, that's just impressive.

By the way, the injured cyclist, Chris Horner, has plans to return to the Tour of Elk Grove next year. He will have to sit out the Tour of Spain next month to recover.

Canadian David Veilleux won the overall race, taking home the $28,000 prize.
