Eatery to hold Valentine's dinner for families

It's never too early to start thinking about Valentine's Day plans.

And if you want to include the whole family, a local Palatine business is continuing their kid-friendly tradition.

The Great American Bagel in Palatine will hold a Valentine's Night Family Dinner at the restaurant, 805 N. Quentin Road. The meal will be served as a white-tablecloth dinner and there will be a special menu with a dessert.

Reservations will be accepted but walk-ins are also welcome. Dinner is served 5 to 8 p.m. For more information, call (847) 359-0900.

Patten house price down: The price of the historic Patten House, which is up for sale, has been reduced for the second time since its been on the market.

Just this month, the price tag was dropped $325,000, and the home is now listed for $1.3 million. It's been on the market since June through Sotheby's International, where it was initially listed at just under $1.8 million.

Antique road show here: Have something you need appraised? Stop by the Palatine Public Library Jan. 31 for an Antiques Roadshow with Karl Gates. The event runs 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and for $25, people can get two items appraised. Call the library to register at (847) 358-5881.

Family fun at Harper: A concert and family fun fair to benefit the Harper College Child Learning Center will be Feb. 2 at the college. The concert is a performance by Jim Gill, and there will also be games, face-painting, balloon animals and other activities. The event runs from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the J Theatre. For more information, call (847) 925-6100. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for children.

Palatine Harley is sued: A man has filed a lawsuit against the Harley-Davidson dealership in Palatine after saying he stepped on a nail gun in the store last February.

According to the lawsuit filed in Cook County Circuit Court last week, Joseph Lance was at the store at 2200 N. Rand Road, when someone left a nail gun on the floor during construction. Lance stepped on the nail gun and was injured on his ankle. He is seeking more than $50,000 by suing the store owner, OAG Motorcycle Ventures and the contractor, Camcay Remodeling and Decorating, Inc., according to court records.

Spinning for a cause: The third annual "War on ALS Spin-a-Thon" will be Feb. 9 at the Buehler YMCA in Palatine. The event is from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the lobby. It's being organized by local Iron Men and friends Bob Mitera and John Wolski of Palatine.

The event pays tribute to friend and fellow athlete Jon "Blazeman" Blais, who last summer lost his battle with ALS at age 35. It's being held to increase awareness about and raise funds for research for the condition also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
