Party to celebrate a decade of Fashion Outlets in Rosemont
Tuesday, Aug. 1, marked the 10th anniversary of the opening of Fashion Outlets of Chicago, when throngs of bargain shoppers packed into the new two-story, 530,000-square-foot mall in Rosemont.
A party celebrating the shopping center's first decade is scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, mall operator Macerich announced.
"For the past decade, Fashion Outlets of Chicago has served as the premier outlet shopping destination in the Midwest, and we're thrilled to have the opportunity to celebrate this milestone anniversary with our shoppers," said Katie Walsh, the mall's senior marketing manager, in a news release.
The event will include a live set from DJ Greg Conner spinning chart-topping hits, and discounts and offers from participating retailers like Burberry, Pandora, POLO Ralph Lauren Factory Store, Levi's, Tory Burch, Theory, Lindt Chocolate, Tapville Social and Stuart Weitzman.
There will also be interactive activity stations with digital temporary tattoos and fashion illustrations.
Pre-pandemic, business at the indoor mall at Balmoral Avenue and the Tri-State Tollway was so good that it accounted for more than half of the total village sales tax revenues in most years. Macerich and village officials even discussed the possibility of a 225,000-square-foot expansion that would have spelled an end to the Rosemont Theatre.
That possibility was floated in 2015, and the two sides inked a development agreement in 2018.
But three years ago, at the height of the pandemic, the deal was officially called off.
Since opening, the number of stores has generally hovered around 130 in the mid- to high-end categories, including a number of designers that opened their first Midwest locations.
