Wheeling veterans group donates hygiene kits, blankets to Lovell Center

A Wheeling-based veterans group has donated 200 personal hygiene kits and six hand-crocheted blankets to a suburban hospital for military veterans.

Members of AMVETS Post No. 66 contributed the items to the Capt. James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center in North Chicago.

They'll go to the center's inpatient hospital and long-term care facility, according to AMVETS.

The donations were made ahead of Armed Forces Day, which was May 20.

The blankets were made by volunteers with the Warm Up America Foundation, a nonprofit group that donates blankets and accessories to a variety of people in need.

AMVETS Post No. 66 has a long history with the Lovell Center, including hosting events there and putting together other charitable projects.

Post No. 66 is open daily for members and guests at 700 McHenry Road.

Member meetings are at 7 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month.
