Prospect Heights District 23's inaugural Family Fest a celebration of community

After two years of pandemic-influenced education, Prospect Heights Elementary School District 23 Superintendent Don Angelaccio knew that many of his students felt disconnected as they returned to classes this fall.

His solution? Organizing the district's inaugural Family Fest, which took place Oct. 21 between Sullivan Elementary and MacArthur Middle schools.

The free, communitywide event brought students, families and district staff together to celebrate the strong sense of community in District 23 and the successful start of the school year.

Highlights included games, inflatables, food trucks and performances by the schools' choruses and bands. Bands included the Sullivan Chorus, the MacArthur Chorus, the MacArthur Strings, the MacArthur Jazz Band and Bach2Rock.

Food was provided by Garibaldi's Pizza, Ernesto's Taco Truck and Rainbow Cone.
