Lake County Fair returns with mix of old and new

Returning for its 93rd year, the Lake County Fair celebrates the agricultural heritage of Lake County by combining old-fashioned traditions with all new fun and activities.

The fair runs Wednesday through Sunday, July 27-31, at the Lake County Fairgrounds and Event Center, 1060 E. Peterson Road, Grayslake.

Fair hours are 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, July 27 and 28; 10 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday, July 29 and 30; and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 31.

Expo Hall Hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Livestock Barn Hours are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

See prizewinning livestock, dairy goats, treats, vegetables and exhibits by local 4-H youth and Lake County residents.

Entertainment includes music, motor sports, monster truck shows, a talent show, carnival rides, food vendors, beer gardens and more.

The Lake County Farm Heritage Society will be on hand with antique tractor displays and their Ride-a-Tractor.

Other activities taking place throughout the day each day include a petting zoo, seven selfie stations, camel and pony rides, pig races, John Measner's magic show, the Canine Stars Stunt Dog Show, performances by comedy juggler Niels Duinker and the Kidbuck$ Game Show, which allows randomly selected audience members to compete for prizes.

Musical acts include Slam Funk and Judson Brown Band on Wednesday; Svelte Bobby and the Soulfixers and Libido Funk Circus Thursday; Wichita Jacks and Gold Dust Dreams Friday; Los Perros Cubanos and Chapel Hill Band Saturday; and Mellencougar and Zydeco Voodoo Band on Sunday.

Ticket prices per day are $15 for ages 13 to 64; $5 for ages 6 to 12 and 65 and older; and free for ages 5 or younger. Season passes are $55 or $20 for ages 6 to 12 and 65 or older.

Admission is $5 for active military, veterans and dependents with valid military ID; free for active military in uniform.

Thursday is Military Appreciation Day with free admission for active military, veterans and dependents with valid military ID.

Midway rides and games will be operated by Skinner's Amusements and open at noon daily. Ride tickets are available at booths located throughout the Midway.

All-you-can-ride wristband specials will be available for $25 from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday.
