Sound check: BoDeans, Tool and Ignescent on stages this week

The BoDeans' catchy and compelling adult-alternative hits have lived on in popularity since the band got its start in the late '80s. With the chart-topping "Fadeaway," "Dreams" and "Closer to Free," which blew up as the theme song of TV's "Party of Five," The BoDeans brings its dynamic live show to Glen Ellyn this weekend to join the McAninch Arts Center's 35th anniversary celebration.

Ignescent release show

Chicago faith-metal band Ignescent celebrates its "Ascension" EP and the recent single "Remnant," which hit #24 on the Christian rock charts, with a show at Aurora's The Town Bar & Grill this weekend. Ignescent will be joined by special guest Sameer Bhattacharya of Flyleaf on guitar, along with The Protest and Fallen Phobia.

From Wham! to jams

"The Life and Music of George Michael" chronicles the internationally celebrated pop star from his breakout hits in Wham! through his catchy and award-winning solo creations. With hits "Wake Me Up Before You Go Go," "Faith," "Careless Whisper," "Father Figure" and many more, the tribute will have fans reliving the '80s and '90s along with the performers.

Tool time

Three years after its last release "Fear Inoculum," alt-metal band Tool's first album in 13 years, the band announced the April release of "Fear Inoculum Ultra Deluxe Vinyl," a five-LP collection including the Grammy-winning release and loads of new artwork. Tool, joined by The Acid Helps, takes over the United Center for a late-week tour stop next Thursday.

• Bitter Jester has opened submissions for its 17th music festival season. Chosen acts will perform at in-person Friday night concerts in late May and early June at Port Clinton Square (600 Central Ave. in downtown Highland Park) for an audience and a panel of qualified judges who will offer feedback to each act afterward.
