Modified Buffalo Grove Days features rides, music, food

Food trucks, carnival rides and music will be the highlights of Buffalo Grove Days, which returns this week to Mike Rylko Community Park, 951 McHenry Road.

Festival hours are 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2 (carnival only); 6 to 11 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3; 1 to 11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 4-5; and 1 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 6 (carnival only). Admission is free.

This year's modified event, which is put on by the village of Buffalo Grove and the Buffalo Grove Park District, will not include fireworks or a parade.

The festival kicks off at 6 p.m. Thursday with carnival rides by North American Midway Entertainment. There are different price points for wristbands, which offer unlimited rides on certain days and hours; festivalgoers can save by purchasing tickets and wristbands in advance.

The megaband ($60-$65) is good for unlimited rides throughout the duration of the festival. Details are available at www.bgdays.com/carnival.

A special-needs carnival, for people with disabilities and their immediate families, will take place from 10-11:30 a.m. Monday. Advance registration is required.

Main stage entertainment will include Wedding Banned from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Friday; Soda from 3-4:30 p.m. and 7th heaven from 7:30-9:30 p.m. on Saturday; the Jolly Ringwalds from 3-4:30 p.m. and Gone 2 Paradise from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Sunday. A DJ will play music in between bands.

From 2-2:45 p.m. Saturday, the park district presents Big Deal Productions' "Year in Review."

Food trucks will be on hand from 4 to 11 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There will not be a tent, but picnic tables will be spread out and festivalgoers are encouraged to bring their own blankets and chairs.

Scheduled food trucks include Pierogi Rig; Hawker Delights (fried rice, egg rolls, pot stickers, chicken lo mein); Kona Ice; and Billy Brick's (wood-fired pizza).

The park district will sell soft drinks along with alcoholic beverages from 5-11 p.m. Friday and 1-11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

On-site parking is limited. There will be a shuttle service from remote parking areas at 1100 Lake-Cook Road, Twin Groves Middle School and the Buffalo Grove Metra lot. Masks are required on all shuttle buses.

Dogs, smoking and tobacco products are not permitted at Buffalo Grove Days.
