Widescreen: This Valentine's Day, cozy up to ... 'The Equalizer'? ('No, not exactly)

Love is in the air! Let's snuggle and watch a romantic favorite. Hey look, "You've Got Mail" is on HBO Max! Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan! Love in the age of AOL! I saw this movie with my mom and sisters at AMC South Barrington, what a nice memory!

Wait a minute. This is about a rich cyberstalker who destroys a nice lady's independent bookstore before trying to take her to bed. And he presumably succeeds! We've come a long way since 1998, haven't we.

What about Tom and Meg's other Valentine's Day classic, "Sleepless in Seattle"? Yeah, that will do the trick! It's on Starz.

Well, no. This time Meg's the stalker, and she ditches her lovable fiancee Bill Pullman in favor of a voice she hears on some quack's radio show.

Hmm. I'm afraid to even watch a trailer for "When Harry Met Sally ..." at this point, but it's available on fuboTV and Showtime if you want to give it a whirl.

So what should we watch this Valentine's weekend?

Director Wayne Wang's 2006 remake of "Last Holiday" fits the bill nicely, even with its Christmas setting. Queen Latifah, who can also be seen at 7 p.m. Sunday exacting justice on CBS' new version of "The Equalizer," plays a department store employee who dreams of being a chef - and of romance with co-worker LL Cool J. When her doctor says she has just a few weeks to live, she cashes in her 401(k) and jets off to a ritzy hotel in the Czech Republic to live her very best life.

Nothing that happens in "Last Holiday" is a surprise - Her doctor was wrong! Who could have guessed?! - but Latifah's Georgia Byrd is the kind of character who makes an audience fall hard. The other characters fall, too, including Giancarlo Esposito as a slithery senator whose eyes light up for Georgia. His ebullient performance is a far cry from Gus Fring's first "Breaking Bad" appearance three years later.

"Last Holiday" ends in romance, but its most satisfying arc is watching Georgia find her lust for life, her self-confidence. Consider watching it this weekend as an act of self-care.

"Last Holiday" is available on Peacock, which you already have access to if you're an Xfinity subscriber.
