District 63 boosts pay for substitute teachers

Des Plaines-based East Maine School District 63 is boosting its efforts to attract more substitute teachers by increasing their pay.

The district now is offering to pay substitutes $200 per day, up from $127.50.

If you're interested in working as a sub, there are some requirements.

You must hold a bachelor's degree or higher from a regionally-accredited institution of higher education and have an Illinois substitute license that's valid for teaching prekindergarten through the 12th grade.

District 63 has roughly 3,400 students from Des Plaines, Niles, Glenview, Park Ridge, and Morton Grove. The district has five elementary schools, one middle school and a preschool.

The district will begin offering its students a mix of in-person and remote educational programs starting Tuesday, Jan. 19, after months of all-remote learning because of the COVID-19 crisis.
