How you can get tickets to Biden's presidential inauguration

Residents of Illinois' 10th Congressional District who want to attend President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration can request tickets using U.S. Rep. Brad Schneider's website.

A page dedicated to ticket requests went live this week at schneider.house.gov/services/2021-inauguration-tickets. Each congressional office will have a process for providing tickets.

The 10th District includes parts of Cook and Lake counties, including many of the North and Northwest suburbs. Schneider is a Deerfield Democrat who won reelection earlier this month.

Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will be sworn in on Jan. 20, 2021. The inauguration ceremony traditionally is held on the west end of the U.S. Capitol and managed by the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies.

That committee typically provides members of Congress a limited number of tickets to be distributed. Tickets usually are for a standing area near the east end of the National Mall, but the ceremony could be very different this time because of the COVID-19 crisis.

"The inauguration of President-Elect Joe Biden will be historic and an unprecedented undertaking in the midst of the pandemic," Schneider said.

"I trust that the Jan. 20 inauguration ceremony will be exceptionally well done with protections in place for the public health."

Inauguration tickets aren't released to members of Congress until about a week before the ceremony. Schneider's office doesn't yet know how many tickets it will get.

The names of people requesting tickets through the website will be added to a list. Recipients will be selected via a lottery.

People may request as many tickets as they want, but the number issued may be limited.
