District 70 principals honor staff with doughnuts, gifts during Teacher Appreciation Week
On the morning of May 6, Libertyville School District 70 principals lined up along the bus circle behind Adler Park School and greeted a long line of teachers and staff members in cars with doughnuts.
Because all D70 teachers are teaching remotely, the district had to find a new way to celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week.
"Doughnut know what we'd do without you," Rockland Principal Jeff Knapp said to teachers as he handed them a doughnut.
Ten feet away, Copeland Manor School Principal Dr. Lori Poelking asked teachers their favorite color and handed them small rubber ducks of that color. The ducks were numbered, so that the front office of each school could pick numbers to give small gifts to the teachers with the matching ducks.
"We're lucky ducks to have you," she said as she gave them out.
At the start of the line, Highland Middle School administrators Principal Dr. Jon Hallmark, Assistant Principal Elizabeth Davis, and Dean of Students Ryan Anderson handed out doughnuts and fanny packs from Highland.
"This is one of the best things I've done all week," said Dr. Kerri Bongle, principal at Adler Park School. "It's so fun to see everyone."
Butterfield Principal Dr. Candice Kehoe and Assistant Principal Steve Feldman greeted their teachers and staff members together, along with the children in the back seat who often accompanied the teachers, and even a dog sitting up front.
"What a beautiful day," Dr. Kehoe said. "What a beautiful day to do this."
