Normandy documentary to be screened Feb. 6 in Arlington Heights
World War II veterans and Gold Star and Blue Star families will be honored next month in Arlington Heights before screenings of a new documentary about the citizens of Normandy, France.
"The Girl Who Wore Freedom" tells the stories of the citizens of Normandy who lived through German occupation, the D-Day invasion, and the liberation by Allied forces - and their efforts to thank American veterans.
The film has been shot and interviews with citizens and veterans have been completed, but the rough cut is still being screened to focus groups in France and the United States - including last Sunday in Wheaton - as filmmaker Christian Taylor wraps up production.
A combined focus group and fundraising event for the film is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, at CMX Cinemas, 53 S. Evergreen Ave. in Arlington Heights. Honored guests will include World War II veterans James P. Ostler Sr. and Ceo Bauer - both recipients of the French Legion of Honour - Consul General of France in Chicago Guillaume Lacroix, occupation survivor Gilbert Bilezikian, and cast members.
At 8 p.m., Gold Star flags will be presented to families of fallen service members, and Blue Star flags to families of current service members.
Screenings will begin at 8:15 p.m. and 8:35 p.m., followed by Q&A sessions with the filmmaker.
