Mundelein School District 75 gets in the spirit with Day of the Dead event

More than 250 people attended Mundelein School District 75's "Day of the Dead: A Celebration of Life" cultural event Friday, Nov. 1, at Carl Sandburg Middle School in Mundelein.

There were activities for children, including paper flower and Papel Picado stations, face painting, sugar skull coloring pages and a photo booth.

The Ballet Folklorico Erandi dance troupe provided entertainment, performing traditional dances for the attendees.

Taquitos, rice and beans were served by Mundelein School District 75 staff, and attendees shared food for a festive potluck of traditional Latin specialties.

Teachers and staff created a traditional Ofrenda (altar) to honor loved ones who had passed away.
