Theater events: The Lovettes wax nostalgic at Metropolis; Theatre Y stages a pilgrimage in Chicago

• "Mixtape," a 45-minute improvised drama chronicling the evolution of a relationship through the songs on a mix tape, opens Friday, Aug. 16, at Theatre Momentum, a company that specializes in dramatic improvisation. • Previews begin Saturday, Aug. 17, for Theatre Y's inaugural mobile performance "The Camino Project - An Experiment in Travel," which begins and ends at Ipsento 606, 1813 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago. "The Camino Project" opens Sunday, Aug. 18. A six-hour, participatory event, it was inspired by Theatre Y members' walk across Spain's Camino de Santiago, a 500-mile pilgrimage route that dates back to the 9th century. Conceived by dramaturge Evan Hill and directed by Melissa Lorraine, the event consists of a five-mile walk through Bucktown and Humboldt Park, a meal and theater and dance performances. • Des Plaines ceramic artist Robert Serb, a writing instructor at Oakton Community College in Des Plaines, is among the artists participating in the 18th annual Glenwood Avenue Arts Fest, which takes place from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, in the Glenwood Avenue Arts District located in the vicinity of North Glenwood and Morse avenues in Chicago. • Pride Films & Plays presents the Chicago-area premiere of Harvey Fierstein's "Casa Valentina," a 1962-set comedy about acceptance. The action unfolds at a vacation outpost in the Catskill Mountains, which caters to straight, cisgender men who occasionally like to dress and act as women. Casa Valentina's married proprietors are played by Patrick Byrnes (George/Valentina) and Nicholia Q. Aguirre (Rita). Previews begin Thursday, Aug. 22, at 4139 N. Broadway. The show opens Aug. 26. • ComedySportz teams up with the Chicago Women's Funny Festival at 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, to mark the beginning of the festival at Stage 773, 1225 W. Belmont Ave., Chicago. Thursday's all-female comedy competition ushers in the eighth annual showcase of female stand-up comedians, improvisers, sketch comedy performers and writers. • Kokandy Productions announced an extension of the hit jukebox show "Head Over Heels." Set to the music of The Go-Gos, it's adapted from a series of 16th-century poems chronicling the lives and loves of two young noblewomen and a royal family attempting to save its kingdom.
