At Work teams take advantage of sponsor programs

The Fittest Loser At Work Challenge has a variety of activities provided by sponsors from the local area.

This year's At Work sponsors include Push Fitness, Amita Health, Chandlers, Dick Pond Athletics, Elk Grove Park District, Hoffman Estates Park District, Deer Park Town Center, Jewel-Osco, Fitness Factory, Cooking Skills Academy, and Salon Lorrene.

Push Fitness offers a variety of classes including Tabata, Zumba, Boot Camp, and more. Many teams have been attending these special classes along with classes from Push Fitness' public schedule.

Amita Health is involved from start to finish, by providing nursing staff to record beginning and ending weights. Amita also attends other events including the Indoor 5K and nutritional tours at Jewel-Osco.

Amita Health also provided an osteoporosis screening and Laura House of Fits Chem, LLC's “Skinny Dippers” says she has learned that exercise affects a lot of things and that she was “shocked that it affects osteoporosis.”

Dick Pond Athletics offers several classes including “Recovery and Injury Prevention Talk” and “Gearing Up for Spring.”

Elk Grove Park District has had a lot of classes including “Sugar — The Good, the Bad, the Truth about Sugars” and “Indoor 5K.” Monica O'Byrne of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage's “Team Down-sizers” says, “The members have been raving about the presentation that was done on the ‘evils' of sugar” and continues saying that the class was “excellent and she learned so much.”

Hoffman Estates Park District has offered many workshops including “Kettlebell Basics” and “Back and Shoulder Exercises.” Participants have been welcomed to stay and enjoy the facilities' amenities after the workshops.

Deer Park Town Center has offered weekly yoga classes provided by Lululemon Athletica and just completed its “St. Paddy's Day 5K.” Kimberly Moore of Redstone Wealth Advisor's “Redstone Renegades” says, “This was my first 5K, and I'm very proud of myself for committing to it and completing it.”

Jewel-Osco is hosting multiple tours at various locations including “Answers in the Aisles” and “Simple Snacks” to help guide participants with finding healthy options during shopping trips.

Fitness Factory is having an open house at its Forest Park location called “Learn, Touch, Try,” where participants and the public can come in to learn about different exercise equipment and try them out.

Cooking Skills Academy offers several cooking demonstrations to teach healthy cooking techniques and meal prep — a favorite for many participants.

Toward the end of the challenge many participants have lost a lot of weight and are feeling great and to help them look as good as they feel, Salon Lorrene is having a “Hair How-tos and Tips” class where stylists will demonstrate the latest styling techniques.

The finale for Fittest Loser will be held at Chandlers in Schaumburg on May 14. Participants will enjoy healthy snacks as we celebrate everyone's success during this healthy journey toward weight loss and reveal this year's winners.
