Dining out: Beatrix debuts first suburban spot in Oak Brook

Beatrix opens in Oak Brook

For those who have enjoyed dining at a Beatrix location in Chicago, you can now nosh on healthy favorites at a new suburban location that opened this week in Oak Brook. The new Lettuce Entertain You restaurant, which features a large coffee bar and lounge that can seat up to 100 guests, offers a drink menu with fresh-squeezed juices such as celery and caraway, activated charcoal lemonade and wellness shots. For lunch and dinner, highlights include Rita's Pineapple with basil-lime sugar, burnt honey toast, deep dish apple pancakes, grilled swordfish kebab with quinoa rice pilaf, and pepper steak with sweet peppers, pearl onions and peppercorn sauce. Stop by the bakery counter for treats like the Everything Croissant or the Midnight Macaroon. There's more to come as Beatrix plans to open a 40-seat patio and a 20-seat coffee lounge outside when the weather warms. Plus, there are plans to add a dedicated carryout counter. Hours are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday. Brunch will be served from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Whiskey and rye

If you want to expand your knowledge of rye whiskey, check into the Discovering Fine Spirits with Brant Herrel event at Geneva's Niche. Starting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 4, participants can expect six pours, including Old Forester Rye, Thomas H. Handy Sazerac Rye 2018, Kentucky Owl Rye Batch #1, Pikesville Rye, 18th Street Distillery Rye and Journeyman “Elijah's Mash” Niche Single Barrel, as well as a discussion about the spirits.
