Sound check: Scotch the Filmmaker, Honey & the 45s at Schubas

Scotch at Schubas

If you're looking for dreamy pop-rock, Chicago indie-alternative six-piece Scotch the Filmmaker serves up what you're craving - bright, melodic tunes woven with comforting harmonies and sentimental riffs. Over the last year, the band - Joe Monahan and Brad Mueller of Riverside, Joliet native Brian Kinney, Chicago's Franny Sadler, and Katie and John Schieber - delivered a new album, “Can't Say It With Words,” along with a set of single/EPs, “Lake Effect Indie,” in three volumes. Hear the band's new songs when they play a Thursday night set at Schubas alongside hometown blues-funk rockers Honey & the 45s and West Chicago singer-songwriter Neon Creek. 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at Schubas Tavern, 3159 N. Southport Ave., Chicago. $10-$12. (773) 525-2508 or lh-st.com.

David Forman 'Raw'

If you've seen the 2016 movie “What Happened Last Night” or the Amazon series “New Dogs, Old Tricks,” chances are you've heard songs by Skokie's David Forman and his David Forman Project. His new song “Flavor” (which is featured in the series, along with other DFP works) is being considered for a Daytime Emmy nomination for Best Original Song. The final nominations will be announced Jan. 24, but you can check it out now on the band's new EP, “DFP Raw AF,” which was released this week on CD Baby, Apple Music and Spotify.
